A pre-filter for use with a blood collection system comprises a pre-filter housing defining the structure of the pre-filter and located within a cavity of a reservoir connected to the blood collection system. A pre-filter membrane is contained within the pre-filter housing, the pre-filter membrane pre-filtering fluid entering the reservoir from a source by preventing particulates from passing and allowing the fluid to pass through the pre-filter membrane. A travel means connected to the pre-filter housing allows the pre-filter to travel within the cavity as the pre-filter collects particulates.
