An oral care composition is disclosed comprising a source of zinc and an orthophosphate source. The molar ratio of zinc to orthophosphate (Zn:PO4) in the composition less than 3:1, the pH of the composition is greater than 6.0 and if the oral care composition comprises a calcium source then the molar ratio of zinc to calcium (Zn:Ca) is at least 1:5. The composition is provided in formats which reduce the possibility of premature reaction of the zinc and orthophosphate, including anhydrous mono-phase compositions, dual-phase compositions, or hydrous mono-phase compositions wherein one or both of the sources is encapsulated.
