In some embodiments, the eye imaging apparatus can comprise a light source, imaging optics, an image sensor, and a handgrip comprising a bump shaped to fit with a palm of an operator. In some embodiments, the eye imaging apparatus can comprise a light source, imaging optics, an image sensor, and a control button. The control button can comprise a multi-functional button and/or a control button activated by the index finger. In some embodiments, the eye imaging apparatus can comprise a housing structure comprising a double shell structure with an inner shell and an outer shell, which can be configured to facilitate heat management. In some embodiments, the eye imaging apparatus can comprise a removable front imaging module, a main module, and an interconnect locking structure configured to enable repeated removal of the front imaging module from and re-attachment of the front imaging module to the main module. Various embodiments also comprise a carrying case for an eye imaging apparatus.
