Provided are: a method for imparting resistance to plants by searching for a gene which is associated with resistance to stress, e.g. high salt concentration, from among the genes of Cyanidioschyzon merolae and isolating a gene which is effective in producing a transgenic plant exhibiting excellent calcium and sodium resistance a plant which is transformed using said gene and said gene for use as a research tool. Specifically provided are: a method for imparting calcium and sodium resistance to plants by introducing gene (a) or (b) into a plant and (a) a gene coding a protein comprising the amino acid sequence represented by SEQ ID NO: 1 or (b) a gene coding a protein comprising an amino acid sequence derived from SEQ ID NO: 1 by substitution, deletion, addition, or insertion of a portion of the amino acid sequence thereof into a plant, said gene having a property to impart calcium and sodium resistance to a plant by being introduced into the plant.
