PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus which can provide an image for a clinical diagnosis having higher reliability by suppressing the introduction of a returning artifact in a parallel imaging, and to provide a controlling method for the magnetic resonance imaging apparatus.
SOLUTION: This magnetic resonance imaging apparatus has a data collecting means, a signal suppressing means, and an image data forming means. In this case, the data collecting means collects magnetic resonance signals from a subject by using a plurality of coils. The signal suppressing means suppresses the generation of magnetic resonance signals in a specified space area R1. The image data forming means generates image data from the magnetic resonance signals which have been collected by the data collecting means by using the suppression information of the magnetic resonance signals in the specified space area R1.
