FIELD: medicine.SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to vascular surgery, and can be used to predict the risk of embologneous rupture of unstable carotid atherosclerotic plaque. A carotid artery bifurcation model is constructed and the tangential stress of its wall is assessed. That is combined with computer angiography and carotid artery bifurcation model constructed according to the results thereof. Carotid artery wall tangential stress is evaluated taking into account blood pressure at the outlet of its atherosclerotic lesion, and normal carotid artery wall tension is determined with allowance for changes in arterial blood pressure within its lumen. Vector values of tangential and normal pressure on artery wall are determined. That is followed by addition of their values characterizing the value of the vascular wall total stress in the zone of the atherosclerotic plaque at different values of systemic arterial pressure.
