An acoustic imaging apparatus and method: produce acoustic images of an area of interest in response to one or more receive signals received from an acoustic probe in response to acoustic echoes received by the acoustic probe from the area of interest； 5 identify one or more candidate locations for a passive sensor disposed on a surface of an intervention device in the area of interest based on magnitudes of the acoustic echoes received by the acoustic probe from the candidate locations in the area of interest； use intra-procedural context-specific information to identify a one of the candidate locations which best matches the intra-procedural context-specific information as the estimated 10 location of the passive sensor； displaying the acoustic images on a display device； and display on the display device a marker in the acoustic images to indicate the estimated location of the passive sensor.La présente invention concerne un appareil et un procédé d'imagerie acoustique comprenant les étapes consistant : à produire les images acoustiques sur une zone d'intérêt en réponse à un ou plusieurs signaux de réception reçus depuis une sonde acoustique en réponse à des échos acoustiques reçus par la sonde acoustique depuis la zone d'intérêt ； à identifier une ou plusieurs emplacements candidats pour un capteur passif disposé sur une surface d'un dispositif d'intervention dans la zone d'intérêt sur la base des amplitudes des échos acoustiques reçus par la sonde acoustique depuis les emplacements candidats dans la zone d'intérêt ； à utiliser les informations spécifiques au contexte intra-procédural pour identifier l'un des emplacements candidats qui correspond le mieux aux informations spécifiques au contexte intra-procédural comme emplacement estimé du capteur passif ； à afficher les images acoustiques sur un dispositif d'affichage ； et à afficher sur le dispositif d'affichage un marqueur dans les images acoustiques pour indiquer l'emplacement estimé du capteur passif.
