The present invention provides an electrode designed for implantation into the central nervous system (CNS) of a mammal, wherein said electrode is substantially coated with interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-lra) or a coating composition comprising it, and the IL-lra actively inhibits scarring on or around the surface of the electrode when implanted into the CNS. The electrode of the invention may be used for brain recording and/or stimulation, and can thus be used for treatment of a brain dysfunction, a brain disease or disorder, or a brain injury, as well as for brain computer interface, brain machine interface, or electrotherapy.La présente invention concerne une électrode conçue pour être implantée dans le système nerveux central (SNC) d'un mammifère, ladite électrode étant sensiblement revêtue d'un antagoniste de récepteur de l'interleukine-1 (IL-1ra) ou d'une composition de revêtement l'incluant, et le IL-1ra inhibant activement la formation de cicatrices sur ou autour de la surface de l'électrode lorsqu'elle est implantée dans le SNC. L'électrode selon l'invention peut être utilisée à des fins d'enregistrement et / ou de stimulation du cerveau, et peut ainsi être utilisée pour le traitement d'un dysfonctionnement cérébral, d'une maladie ou d'un trouble cérébral, ou d'une lésion cérébrale, ainsi que comme interface cerveau-computer, interface cerveau-machine ou pour une électrothérapie.
