The oral hygiene kit can include a tooth cleaning device, a food product and a xylitol-containing item selected from the group consisting of a candy, a chewing gum and a combination thereof. A method of reducing tooth decay in a student can include the steps of providing to the student an oral hygiene kit comprising a tooth cleaning device, a food product and a xylitol-containing item selected from the group consisting of a candy, a chewing gum and a combination thereof while the student is at school. In an embodiment, the food product does not have a low pH and/or does not have high fructose corn syrup.
