An object of the present invention is to provide a moisturizing agent that can sufficiently promote the production of a moisturizing related protein and exhibit a sufficient moisturizing effect. That is, the present invention provides a humectant containing an acyl neutral amino acid having an acyl group having 2 to 18 carbon atoms or a salt thereof, and a cosmetic containing the same.
