PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hair reducing composition which can impart a desired shape to the hair violently damaged by repeated chemical treatments such as hair coloring, hair breaching and perming while inhibiting further damage, and to provide a treating method therefor.SOLUTION: This hair reducing composition comprises (A) 0.039-0.39 mol/L mercapto group-free keratin reducing substance selected from a sulfite, a hydrogensulfite, and the like, (B) 0.007-0.196 mol/L mercapto group-containing keratin reducing substance selected from thioglycolic acid, cysteine, a salt thereof, and the like, (C) 0.1-10 wt.% cationic surface active agent, and (D) 0.1-10 wt.% polyol, and the pH of the composition is in the range of 8-10.
