PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the amount of hydrogen peroxide to be used for sterilizing the outer surface of a cup.
SOLUTION: In a method for sterilizing the outer surface of a cup-like container, the flange 3 of a cup 1 is supported on a circumferential edge of a container insertion hole of a retainer 9, and the outer surface of the cup is sterilized by blowing the mist a of hydrogen peroxide toward the outer surface of the cup while the retainer travels intermittently. Slit-like nozzle ports 20, 20 are arranged so as to hold a cup bottom to be projected below the temporarily stopped retainer from front and rear sides of the retainer in the traveling direction, the nozzle ports are opposed to the edge 2b of the cup bottom diagonally from the lower side, and the mist of hydrogen peroxide is blown from each nozzle port toward the edge of the cup bottom. Thus, the amount used of hydrogen peroxide can be considerably reduced.
