A cardiac pump assembly, also referred to as a catheter assembly, having a desired anatomical shape is provided. The catheter assembly can include a catheter and a cannula having a bend between the proximal and distal portions. The static shape of the catheter and cannula can be selected to allow the cannula distal portion to be positioned at a desired angle with respect to an anatomical plane (eg, the plane of the aortic arch). In some embodiments, the packaging tray can be designed to bring the catheter assembly into a desired static shape. For example, the cannula proximal portion can be disposed at a first angle relative to the catheter, and the cannula proximal portion can be second out of the plane of the packaging tray via the one or more inserts.
