A beverage comprising a first ingredient which comprises a C6-C3phenylpropenoic carbonyl compound in an effectiveamount to reduce degradation of a second ingredient in the beverage, thesecond ingredient being monatin, and to reduce acorresponding change in a characteristic of the beverage. In addition, amethod of preventing the degradation of monatin in amonatin-containing composition is provided.
