PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hair treatment composition facilitating the inhibition of the occurrence of unpleasant hardness in the hair when repairing a damaged hair protein with an ampholytic polymer compound, and to provide a method of hair treatment.SOLUTION: The hair treatment composition contains (A) the ampholytic polymer compound and (B) a diester. The hair treatment composition contains a polymer of monomers containing a cationic monomer, an anionic monomer and a nonionic monomer as the ampholytic polymer compound (A). The diester (B) is a diester of cyclohexane-1,4-dicarboxylic acid with polyoxyethylene alkyl ethers. The hair treatment composition preferably contains (C) amino acids besides them.
