The present invention relates to methods and liquid compositions suitable for high-level disinfection ("HLD") of medical devices near ambient temperature. The methods and compositions are also effective in digesting biological contaminants and, surprisingly, can be used for cleaning and sanitizing simultaneously. Both cleaning and disinfection efficacy meet the cleaning and disinfection criteria of medical devices. The use of the compositions according to the present invention allows for faster reprocessing of equipment with greater energy efficiency and convenience than prior art reprocessing methods.
