PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily recognize the position of a cross-section in three-dimensional echo data.
SOLUTION: A storage device 30 stores reference model data 32 expressing the three-dimensional shape of an observation object such as an organ and a fetus. A coordinate matching processing unit 36 calculates coordinate conversion in order to perform positioning between volume data (the three-dimensional echo data) stored in a memory 18 and a reference model. A cursor generating part 38 converts the cross-section corresponding to a tomographic image generated by a tomographic image generating part 20 by the coordinate conversion, so as to obtain the position and direction of the cross-section in the coordinate system of the reference model, and then, generates a cross-sectional cursor having the obtained position and direction. A model image generating part 40 generates a model image by rendering the cross-sectional cursor and the reference model. The generated model image is combined with the tomographic image by an image generating and synthesizing part 22, so as to be displayed on a display device 24.
