The present invention relates to a device (1, 21) for artificial insemination of mammals, in which semen from a male seed animal is injected through the vagina of the animal into or into the uterus of the animal to be inseminated. The device (1, 21) comprises a tube (2) movable through the vagina of the animal to be inseminated into the uterus and a heatable hollow for containing a straw (7) containing semen. It has a space (6) and a drive (13) that is movable to allow semen to exit through the opening on the uterus side of the straw (7) and tube (2). This device (1, 21) has a mechanism that allows the straw (7) to slide out of the hollow space (6) and into the tube (2).
