A surgical retractor assembly for providing surgical exposure is disclosed. The surgical retractor assembly consists of a number of ring segments connected by an adjustable ratchet mechanism to form a complete ring. The ratchet mechanism is attached to a tissue retractor blade that provides exposure of the wound when expanded without the need to connect / attach directly to the operating table. The tissue retractor blade is attached in a manner that is adjustable and facilitates raising or lowering the entire surgical retractor assembly (ring segment and connector) relative to the patient.
