PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mouthpiece for an endoscope permitting peroral insertion of a nasotracheal endoscope without gag reflex.
SOLUTION: The mouthpiece comprises a tubular body part 3 to be bitten by a patient and a guide part 6 extending rearward from the body part 3 to guide the nasotracheal endoscope 2 inserted through the body part 3 so that the nasotracheal endoscope is bent upward inside the oral cavity b of the patient. With this structure, the endoscope 2 is inserted into the esophagus detouring the tongue root region e, so that the gag reflex caused by the pressure on the tongue root region e is prevented. The mouthpiece also has a plate part 7 extending rearward from the body part 3 under the guide part 6 to hold the tongue c of the patient. Further, a soft resin tube 5 is inserted into the body part 3 from outside to prevent application of excessive loads to the teeth and jaws of the patient when the patient firmly bites the body part 3.
