PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow measuring the whole or an arbitrary section of circumference length of the trunk of a tree increasing with enlarged growth of the tree with high accuracy, from a distance and without necessity of power source nearby the tree. SOLUTION: An optical fiber 2 forming a curved part 2c having a predetermined curvature is attached in the circumferential direction of outer circumference of a trunk 1 of a tree, the curvature of the curved part 2c of the fiber 2 is changed in proportion to a growth amount of the trunk 1, so that the amount of the trunk 1 is measured with the change of a translucent light amount of the fiber 2.
