PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling growth of grass plant by which annual harvest of the grass plant per unit area is increased, a cultivation period per single cropping is shortened and also the harvesting amount in an ordinary cultivation period can be maintained. SOLUTION: The method for controlling growth of grass plant includes irradiating the plant with only artificial light while shielding outside light to grow the plant in a photoperiod including a light period and a dark period. In the method, end-of-day treatment for 10-15 days is subjected to the plant from one day in a period of 13-3 days before a day when the transcription amount of Hd3a in the plant or mRNA of its homologous gene reaches its peak, to one day in a period from the day when the transcription amount reaches its peak to a day 7 days after the day when the transcription amount reaches its peak, and the end-of-day treatment includes irradiating the plant with far red light in an irradiation time within 60 min just after finishing the light period.
