Disclosed are a system and a method for monitoring a patient with abnormal body temperature in an area. The system includes a detection module and a process module. The detection module continually generates a thermal image of this area, divides the thermal image into a plurality of mesh images, determines whether there is a mesh image showing a temperature over a threshold temperature, and determines a target thermal image according to the mesh images showing a temperature over the threshold temperature. After that, the process module generates a diagram showing the temperature variation of the mesh images of the target thermal image with time, and accordingly determines whether there is a patient with abnormal body temperature in this area.
