Disclosed is an in-situ test device for soft clay. The method therefor comprises the following steps: S1: cutting out, around a soil sample (20) of 4 cm * 6 cm on a soft clay surface, grooves (21) with a width of 1 cm and a depth of 2 cm by means of a cutter (17); S2: separating the soil sample (20) from a lower soil body; S3: respectively placing a left loading plate (1) and a right loading plate (2) of the test device into a front and a rear groove (21) in a length direction of the soil sample (20), adjusting a loading nut (5) so as to make the left loading plate (1) and the right loading plate (2) come into contact with the soil sample (20), and recording initial readings x10 and x20 of a second dial indicator (9) and a first dial indicator (8); S4: rotating the loading nut (5) by one revolution, and recording readings x1 and x2 of the second dial indicator (9) and the first dial indicator (8); S5: repeating step S4 until the soil sample (20) is destroyed; and S6: organizing the data, drawing a stress-stra
