PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide novel compositions for the prevention and/or improvement of visual hypofunction as well as the prevention and/or treatment of eye diseases.SOLUTION: The present invention provides a novel composition containing xanthophyll or a salt thereof and a processed product of Trapa plants, as well as a novel ophthalmologic composition containing processed product of Trapa plants. Preferably, the xanthophyll is at least one selected from lutein, astaxanthin, β-cryptoxanthin, zeaxanthin, meso-zeaxanthin, canthaxanthin, capsanthin, and fucoxanthin. Preferably, the processed product of Trapa plants is at least one processed product of Trapa plants selected from Trapa acornis Nakano, Trapa incisa S.et Z., Trapa japonica, Trapa bicornis, Trapa natans L., and Trapa natans var. japonica.
