The present invention relates to the green synthesis of gold nanoparticles using crinum asiaticum leaf aqueous extract which acts both as reducing and stabilizing agent. The invention also includes the synthesis of gold nanoparticles of different sizes by optimizing method parameters. The average particle size of AuNPs was found to be 13 nm calculated using Scherrer equation. The synthesized gold nanoparticles show size dependent catalytic activity for reduction of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol, in the presence of sodium borohydride. The invention also include the study off effect of particle size on catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol by using Uv-Vis spectrophotometry.
