Disclosed are a self-propelled liquid distributor and a method of using a self-propelled liquid distributor. Effluent is useful as a fertiliser on pastures, however current distributors often saturate pastures which leads to runoff and pollution of waterways. The self-propelled liquid distributor includes a chassis outlet (10) drive mechanism conduit and drive wheel (26). The outlet (10) is mounted to the chassis and is for a liquid. The drive mechanism includes housing (19) with an inlet port (19a) and an outlet port (19b) for the liquid. The conduit has a first end linked to the outlet (10) and a second end linked to the outlet port (19b) of the housing (19) of the drive mechanism. The drive wheel (26), in the form of a Pelton wheel, is part of the housing (19) of the drive mechanism. The drive wheel (26) includes a plurality of paddles and is mounted such that the paddles face the inlet port (19a).
