The invention is directed to an electric toothbrush having a cleaning head, a handpiece and a neck arranged between the cleaning head and the handpiece, with the handpiece including a housing with a duty switch, an energy source, a drive unit, a control device and a light source. The light source is activatable by the control device on attainment of a predetermined operating status, and the light source is arranged in an upper region of the handpiece between the duty switch and the neck, with the light source being configured to emit a light with a radiant intensity of 50 to 2,500 μW/sr and/or a luminous intensity of 20 to 500 mcd.Linvention concerne une brosse à dents électrique comportant une tête de nettoyage et une pièce à main entre lesquelles est agencé un col, la pièce à main comportant un boîtier contenant un commutateur de marche, une source dénergie, un module dentraînement, un dispositif de commande et une source lumineuse. La source lumineuse peut être activée par le dispositif de commande une fois un état de fonctionnement prédéfini atteint, et la source lumineuse est agencée dans une région supérieure de la pièce à main située entre le commutateur de marche et le col. La source lumineuse est conçue pour émettre une lumière dune intensité énergétique comprise entre 50 et 2500 μW/sr et/ou dune intensité lumineuse comprise entre 20 et 500 mcd.
