A surgical device adapter for coupling an end effector to a handle assembly isprovided.The surgical device adapter includes a housing and a drive mechanism disposedwithin thehousing and couplable to the handle assembly and the end effector. Thesurgical device adapteralso includes a drive coupling assembly coupled to the surgical device adapterand selectivelycouplable to the handle assembly. The drive coupling assembly includesretraction assemblymovable from a first configuration to a second configuration, wherein in thefirst configurationthe retraction assembly is disengaged from the drive mechanism and in thesecond configurationthe retraction assembly is engaged with the drive mechanism and preventscoupling of the handleassembly to the surgical device adapter.
