A method for manufacturing an absorptive article provided with: an absorptive body a pair of first side flaps provided to one end of the absorptive body in the longitudinal direction thereof and a pair of second side flaps provided to the other end of the absorptive body. The manufacturing method involves: (1) forming a pair of side flap folding sections by folding both ends of a continuous sheet, which is to be the base material for the first and second side flaps, in the widthwise direction of the continuous sheet in such a manner that both the ends are folded inward in the widthwise direction of the continuous sheet while the continuous sheet is being conveyed in the direction of the continuation of the continuous sheet (2) producing cut pieces for flaps by cutting the continuous sheet at predetermined intervals in the direction of the continuation of the continuous sheet (3) while a continuous body of absorptive bodies is being conveyed in the conveyance direction which is the direction of the continuation of the continuous body of absorptive bodies, overlaying and joining the cut pieces for flaps to the continuous body of absorptive bodies and (4) cutting the continuous body of absorptive bodies to divide each of the cut pieces for flaps into a portion having the pair of first side flaps and into a portion having the pair of second side flaps.
