The present invention provides methods for determining optimised parametersfor mechanicalventilation (MV) of a subject using a three-dimensional image of the subject'srespiratorysystem to calculate a specific three-dimensional structural model of thesubject's lungstructure, airway structure and lobar structure, and modeling by a computerthe air flowthrough the airway at defined MV parameters, the structural behaviour of theairway and theinteraction with the flow, and determining the MV parameters which lead to adecrease inairway resistance and hence an increase in lobar mass flow for the samedriving pressures,thereby obtaining optimized MV parameters. The invention also provides methodsforassessing the efficacy of a treatment for a respiratory condition.
