An agricultural soil trench opening machine includes at least one opener/closerarrangement carried by a tool bar. Each opener/closer arrangement includesan opener disc positioned at an angle relative to a working direction and defininga trench profile. The opener disc has an axis of rotation and leading and trailingedges positioned adjacent one side of the trench profile. A gauge wheel is, generally,adjacent to the trailing edge of and inline with the opener disc. The gauge wheelhas a leading edge positioned between opener disc leading and trailing edges.A first closing wheel is positioned on a side of the trench profile opposite tothe gauge wheel. The first closing wheel has a leading edge positioned betweenthe axis of rotation and the trailing edge of the opener disc. A second closingwheel is positioned on a same side of the trench profile as the gauge wheel.
