The present invention relates to a composition comprising a Broussonetia kazinoki extract as an active ingredient for preventing and treating diabetic complications and, more specifically, to a pharmaceutical composition comprising a Broussonetia kazinoki extract as an active ingredient for preventing and treating, or alleviating diabetic complications and to a functional health food including the same. The Broussonetia kazinoki extract of the present invention has anti-oxidant effect to control the induction of diabetic complications due to an oxidative stress caused by the self-oxidation of glucose, exhibits inhibitory efficacy against aldose reductase and has excellent inhibitory ability against advanced glycation end products to have outstanding therapeutic or alleviating effects on diabetic complications caused by the generation of advanced glycation end products, thereby being used as an active ingredient in a composition for preventing and treating various diabetic complications.본 발명은 닥나무 추출물을 유효성분으로 함유하는 당뇨합병증의 예방 및 치료용 조성물에 관한 것으로서, 보다 상세하게 닥나무 추출물을 유효성분으로 함유하는 당뇨합병증의 예방 및 치료용 또는 개선용 약학적 조성물, 및 건강식품에 관한 것이다.본 발명의 닥나무 추출물은 항산화 효과를 나타내어 포도당의 자가 산화에 의한 산화적 스트레스로 인한 당뇨합병증의 유발을 제어할 수 있고, 알도즈 환원효소 억제 효능을 나타내고, 최종당화산물 생성 억제능이 우수하여, 최종당화산물 생성에 의해 발생되는 당뇨합병증의 치료 또는 개선효과에 뛰어날 수 있어, 다양한 당뇨합병증의 예방 또는 치료용 조성물의 유효성분으로서 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.
