The present invention isdirected to a method for treating aneurodegenerative disease such asamyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS),Alzheimer disease, Parkinson's disease,Huntington's disease, frontotemporaldegeneration, dementia with Lewybodies, a motor neuron disease, or ademyelinating disease. The methodcomprises administering to a subject inneed thereof a Ppargc1a activator2-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-1H-benzimidazole,2-[4-(1,1-dimethylethyl)phenyl]-1H-benzimidazole,in an effective amount. Apreferred route of administration is oraladministration.
