Disclosed is a method for predicting a calving date of a cow, the method comprising: monitoring leg postures of the cow with a sensing device configured and adapted to be attached to a leg of the cow determining a given change in the leg postures while the sensing device is positioned on the leg and predicting the calving date responsive to the given change in the leg postures. Also disclosed is a system for predicting a calving date of a cow comprising: a sensing device configured and adapted to be attached to a leg of a cow and operative to monitor leg postures of a cow while positioned on the leg of the cow and a processing unit operative to predict the calving date based on the leg postures of the cow.
