The present invention relates to a tooth, in the protection of the hydroxyapatite-containing materials such as bone, sphingosine-based compounds, to the use of particular phytosphingosine compounds. Such compounds, tooth decay, dental caries, is particularly useful to dentin hypersensitivity and dental calculus (tartar) (tartar (dental calculus)) form of treatment and prevention. A method and apparatus for preventing the biofilm formation by using a sphingosine-based compound is provided.
