The present application is directed to the synthesis of bile acids (BA) from plant sterols, such as, but not limited to, β-sitosterol, stigmasterol, brassicasterol or campesterol. More specifically, the present application includes but is not limited to chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA), ketotricholic acid (KLCA), 6-C 1 -C 3 alkyl CDCA (eg obeticholic acid) and 11-hydroxyobeticholic acid etc. It relates to the synthesis of acid derivatives, other useful intermediates thereof and related compositions from the above mentioned plant sterols.本願は、式（Ａ）の化合物または薬学的に許容可能なその塩、溶媒和物もしくはアミノ酸抱合体を調製する方法に関する。本願は、例えばβ－シトステロール、スチグマステロール、ブラシカステロールまたはカンペステロールなどであるが限定されない植物ステロールからの胆汁酸（ＢＡ）の合成を対象とする。より具体的には、本願は、ケノデオキシコール酸（ＣＤＣＡ）、ケトリトコール酸（ＫＬＣＡ）、６－Ｃ１－Ｃ３アルキルＣＤＣＡ（例えばオベチコール酸）および１１－ヒドロキシオベチコール酸などであるが限定されない胆汁酸誘導体、他の有用なその中間体および上述の植物ステロールからの関連組成物の合成に関する。
