A fragrance dispenser where an aroma is released from a host substance, e.g. wax or oil, by a heat source, wherein there is an array of containers for scented substances, which may be a circular array in the form of a carousel. Each wax or oil carrier substance comprises a respective fragrance. There are means of selectively heating each container, such that different fragrances may be dispensed at different times. By generating a variable fragrance using multiple scents, the effect of nose blindness can be overcome. The array may be moveable around an axis and have a means of moving such as an electric motor and gearing, e.g. a circular toothed-rack in mesh with a speed-reduction gear arrangement, or clockwork, or the array may be static, and each container provided with its own heat source, which may be selectively activated. The carousel may be a cylindrical lampshade with a radially-disposed array of apertures for receiving open-topped containers, which may be moved above or adjacent to a heat source, e.g. an electric lamp which may be controlled with a dimmer switch. The heat source may be in a thermally insulated compartment with entry and exit means for the containers.
