A drinking straw having an internal coating for delivery of an active agent when the straw is used to consume a beverage is provided. The active agent includes sweetener, flavour, a nutrient and/or a pharmaceutical and optionally colour. The coating is prepared by mixing a modified cellulose with water to form a paste or gel. The coating is then used to coat the inside surface of a drinking straw to a thickness of up to 1 mm. The coating is dried to reduce the water content to less than 5% by weight. Liquid drawn through the straw breaks down the modified cellulose releasing the active agent into the liquid, for consumption.L'invention concerne une paille pour boire comportant un revêtement intérieur servant à la distribution d'un agent actif lorsque la paille est utilisée pour consommer une boisson. L'agent actif comprend un édulcorant, un arôme, un nutriment et/ou un agent pharmaceutique et éventuellement un colorant. Le revêtement est préparé par mélange d'une cellulose modifiée avec de l'eau pour former une pâte ou un gel. Le revêtement est ensuite utilisé pour recouvrir la surface intérieure d'une paille pour boire de façon à former une épaisseur allant jusqu'à 1 mm. Le revêtement est séché pour réduire la teneur en eau à moins de 5 % en poids. Du liquide aspiré à travers la paille décompose la cellulose modifiée, libérant ainsi l'agent actif dans le liquide pour sa consommation.
