A system for using a helical retainerin the treatment of mitral valve regurgitation byreshaping the mitral valve annulus using one ormore plications of annular tissue each fixed by aretaining clip is described. The system includesfour devices to achieve such percutaneous directplication annuloplasty. The first is a preferablyprolapsable crossing catheter (200). Second, adeflecting guide catheter (300) is used to provide ameans for guiding the plication device into properposition at the subvalvular region of the mitral valveannulus. Third, the plication device (400) is thenused to make plications in at or near the subvalvularregion of the mitral valve annulus. Fourth, a helicalretainer clip (500) deployed by the plication device inorder to retain the plicated tissue in the plicated form.Alternatively, the fourth device is a retainer deliverycatheter (600) that enables delivery of a helicalretainer over the outside of the plication device.
