Disclosed is a broad-spectrum UV photo-protective composition comprising mesoporous zinc oxide aggregates having an average aggregate size of at least 0.8 microns dispersed in a carrier and the composition is visibly transparent. The composition comprising zinc oxide aggregates can be used as a sunscreen or sunblock and it is useful for treating a human dermatologic condition selected from the group consisting of acne, psoriasis, eczema, ichthyosis, pruritus, dryness and dermatitis.
