To provide a method for coping with chronic pain in a patient suffering from a chronic pain syndrome.SOLUTION: According to the present invention, there is provided a pharmaceutical composition comprising human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) used in a step of communication with an individual to aid in determining whether the individual is likely to suffer from chronic pain and used in the treatment of chronic pain. Here, the HCG is administered to a patient at a daily subcutaneous dose of between 140 IU/day and 170 IU/day. The composition is used for suppressing and alleviating pain in a patient who suffers from at least one of fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic arthropathy, inflammatory pain, post herpetic neuralgia, trigeminal neuralgia, migraine, chronic back pain and disc herniation, neuropathic pain, traumatic nerve injury, post traumatic stress disorder pain syndrome, vulvodynia pain, and chronic postoperative pain syndrome.
