The invention refers to a device (11) for detecting or monitoring electrical parameters in a human subject or animal subject by measuring electrical potentials. According to the invention this device comprises at least one electrical connection attachable to tissue of said human or animal subject, serving as a material electrode (5), and at least one electronic circuitry and/or at least one microprocessor/microcontroller and, where appropriate, software, creating a node serving as a virtual reference electrode (7). According to the invention said node can be held at an electrical reference potential by said circuitry and/or microprocessor/microcontroller. Further, the inventive device comprises means to measure electrical potential changes between said electrical reference potential of the node and the electrical potential of the connection at the tissue of said human or animal subject.
