The present invention relates to a method for treating plastic bottles comprisingan operation for cold plasma sterilization with non-germicidal gasses and/oran operation for the cold plasma deposition of a diffusion barrier layer, saidmethod being characterized in that said cold plasma delivers adjustable nonthermalenergy to the entire inside surface of the bottle, said cold plasma being generatedeither through a distributed propagation of microwaves having a maximum intensityin the vicinity of said surface or by a hollow cathode system adapted to the bottleand supplied with pulsed DC and/or RF voltage. The invention also relates to thedevices for implementing the method.
