PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a virus removal method which can be used in finishing of an indoor wall surface in house construction, and is excellent in virus removal performance, and to provide a coating composition for forming a virus removal coated film and a coated film which are excellent in virus removal performance.SOLUTION: A virus removal method uses a coated film formed by applying a coating composition containing powder of a plant belonging to the family Juncaceae and a coated film forming resin onto a coated matter. The virus removal method includes a step of irradiating a coated film containing powder of a plant belonging to the family Juncaceae with light, where the light irradiating the coated film has a wavelength of 350 to 800 nm. In the virus removal method, a content of the plant belonging to the family Juncaceae in the coated film containing the powder of the plant belonging to the family Juncaceae is 30 parts or more with respect to 100 parts of the volume of the coated film containing the powder of the plant belonging to the family Juncaceae.
