Discrete particulate material can be problematic in various ways. For example, loose particulate material can be difficult to generate dust or harden. Fines in loose granular material can also be a problem. Coated particles can alleviate some of the problems mentioned above. Suitable coated granules can include particulate material, including sand or ceramic, and a polysaccharide composition coated on the granular material, the polysaccharide composition comprising a functionalized polysaccharide. Other particulate materials such as wood chips and animal litter granules can be coated with the functionalized polysaccharide to achieve similar benefits.
