A method of treating an injured blood vessel of a patient may first involve inflating a balloon of an access wire balloon catheter within the injured blood vessel to reduce blood flow past an injury site in the vessel. After inflation, the method may involve attaching an extension wire to an extra-corporeal end of the access wire balloon catheter that resides outside the patient. When the extension wire is attached, an inflation port of the access wire device is disposed outside the patient and between a free end of the extension wire and the balloon of the access wire balloon catheter. The method may further include advancing at least a first treatment catheter into the blood vessel over the access wire balloon catheter and at least a portion of the extension wire and treating the injured blood vessel using the first treatment catheter.La présente invention concerne une méthode de traitement dune lésion vasculaire dun patient pouvant tout dabord faire appel au gonflage dun ballon dun cathéter à ballon à fil daccès à lintérieur de la lésion vasculaire afin de réduire lécoulement sanguin au-delà dun site de lésion dans le vaisseau. Suite au gonflage, la méthode peut faire appel à la fixation dun fil de prolongement à une extrémité extracorporelle du cathéter à ballon à fil daccès qui demeure à lextérieur du patient. Une fois fixé le fil de prolongement, un orifice de gonflage du dispositif à fil daccès est disposé à lextérieur du patient et entre une extrémité libre du fil de prolongement et le ballon du cathéter à ballon à fil daccès. La méthode peut en outre consister à faire avancer au moins un premier cathéter de traitement dans le vaisseau sanguin par-dessus le cathéter à ballon à fil daccès et au moins une partie du fil de prolongement et à traiter la lésion vasculaire au moyen du premier cathéter de traitement.
