According to various embodiments, a tracheal tube may include an integral humidification system. The tracheal tube may be formed at least partially from a material that is permeable to water vapor but substantially impermeable to respiratory gases. The water vapor may be actively provided to the tracheal tube or may be passively transferred from a patients surrounding airway space.
