The present invention relates to a composition for preventing and treating cancer, which contains khellactone and a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active component. Specifically, khellactone has a therapeutic effect on various cancers including colon cancer, renal cancer, anticancer drug-resistant breast cancer and the like through induction of all three types of programmed cell death (PCD), furthermore, exhibits significantly low sensitivity in normal cells. Therefore, the khellactone can be usefully used as the active component of a novel anticancer drug which is free from toxicity and side effects in the human body.본 발명은 켈락톤(khellactone) 및 이의 약학적으로 허용가능한 염을 유효성분으로 함유하는 암 예방 및 치료용 조성물에 관한 것으로, 구체적으로 켈락톤은 3종류의 PCD(programmed cell death) 모두의 유도를 통해 대장암, 신장암, 항암제 내성 유방암 등을 포함하는 다양한 암에 대한 치료 효과가 있으며, 더욱이 정상세포에서는 현저히 낮은 민감성을 나타내므로, 상기 켈락톤은 인체에 독성 및 부작용이 없는 신규 항암제의 유효성분으로 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.
