The present invention relates to a composition containing a peat moss extract as an active component for preventing or curing inflammation. The peat moss extract according to the present invention is non-cytotoxic and, regarding inflammation, prevents the generation of nitric oxide, at the same time hindering the expression of inflammatory proteins such as PGE2, COX-2, iNOS, TNF-&alpha；, IL-1&beta； and NF-kB in a cell strain causing an oxidant stress by lipopolysaccharide (LPS), thus being excellent in anti-inflammatory activity. The anti-inflammatory composition containing the peat moss extract as active component, according to the present invention, can be effectively used for the production of a medicine which can prevent and cure various inflammatory diseases or a functional food which can ease up inflammations.본 발명은 피트모스 추출물을 유효성분으로 함유하는 염증의 예방 또는 치료용 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 피트모스 추출물은 세포독성이 없고 염증반응과 관련하여 산화질소 생성을 억제하는 효과가 있으며, LPS로 산화적 스트레스를 유발시킨 세포주에서 PGE2, COX-2, iNOS, TNF-α, IL-1β 및 NF-kB 염증 단백질의 발현을 현저하게 저해시켜 우수한 염증 반응 억제 활성을 가지고 있어, 본 발명에 따른 피트모스 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 본 발명의 항염증 조성물은 각종 염증 질환의 치료 및 예방에 유용한 치료제 및 염증을 개선할 수 있는 기능성 식품의 제조에 사용할 수 있는 효과가 있다.
